National Chip Week
It always seems to be National ‘something’ Week, and now it’s the turn of the humble chip. A flashy website has been created by the British Potato Council - surprise surprise - to convince us all to scoff the delicious bits of fried spud. As if we really needed the encouragement - one in four British potatoes ends up as chips, and the UK’s 8,500 chippies sell over 277 portions every year. The site is full of silly things - chip astrology, chip games ‘which chip are you? quiz’ and chip receipes, and some surprising chip facts - can 100g of oven chips really contain less fat than a small pot of natural yoghurt and double the amount of vitamin C in an apple? Take a look yourself at www.lovechips.co.uk - but just remember to take it all with a pinch of salt. And a shake of vinegar of course.
