New arts venue for Newcastle

A former prop warehouse for Tyne Tees is the unlikely venue for the latest art exhibition space in Newcastle. Situated on top of the lively Ouseburn Valley, the warehouse will play home to one of the region’s most exciting young artists – local lad Matt Forster. The move from their current space – a converted garage on Newcastle’s Falconer Street – is the third and most ambitious venue for The Art Works Galleries and its owners Matt Forster and Nicolette Perry. Being such a huge property, the duo are certainly thinking big – the new space will be divided in two with space for Matt’s work as well as that of other local artists. Although The Art Works Galleries are not due to open until the 29th of June, Matt and Nicolette have pushed ahead with the building schedule so that they can support a charity event for the NSPCC. The Art From The Heart charity event will be held on Thursday 8th of June at the new Art Works Galleries premises. Over 40 pieces of local art have been donated to the NSPCC by some of the North East’s most talented artists, including Works by Alex Telfer (photographer), Nick Rowsell (sculptor), Roy Kirston (painter) and Charles Evans (as seen on the discovery channel). All proceeds go to local NSPCC projects. Admission is £15.00 and doors open at 7.30pm. The Art Works Galleries officially opens on June 29th for more information call 0191 2619922, email launch@mattforster.com.
