New website for North East's cultural sector
A website to increase awareness of what’s going on in the North East’s fast-growing culture sector will get its official launch today. whatsonnortheast.com will be an interactive shop window for news and information about the best of what’s going on in the cultural sector.Created by the regional audience development agency Audiences North East with core funding from the Arts Council, the site will feature bloggers from the local community posting their opinions on a range of events and performances and exclusive ticket offers and promotions.Promotions for the site launch include the chance to win everything from an package of summer outdoor Shakespeare tickets, to afternoon tea for six at the Mansion House plus the chance to sign up for e mail bulletins to get the best inside information direct to your computer. Visitors will also be able to buy tickets online as a one stop shop for ticket sales to all of the region’s best venues.Elaine Wilson Chief Executive of Audiences North East said: “Our benchmarking survey showed that 50% of people in the North East felt that they didn’t know as much about what was going on as they’d like. We want the website to address this and to be a real community platform for more local people to have a voice about what’s going on in the cultural sector and to take up the opportunities that are available to them.“Mark Dobson Chief Executive of Tyneside Cinema and Chair of Audiences North East board added: “We think the site will be very popular as we’re going to be making it easier than ever before for everyone in the region to find out in depth what’s happening in the cultural sector at the click of a mouse.”
