North East England tourism awards launched

The hunt for the best tourism businesses has begun with the launch of the 2006 NorthEast England Tourism awards. The awards were launched by Louise Davis, Head of Tourism at One NorthEast, at Matfen Hall Hotel Golf Spa, which was named best large hotel and also won the business tourism award in last year’s competition. The awards recognise excellence across the industry from Bed and Breakfast of the Year to Large Visitor Attraction of the Year. The winners in a number of categories of the NorthEast England tourism awards will then represent the region at the national Enjoy England Excellence Awards, next year, which are recognised as ‘Oscars’ of the tourism industry. This year, there are also several categories exclusive to North East England, including Visitor Pub of the Year, Best Family Experience, Newcomer of the Year and Tourism Ambassador of the Year.David Hunter, Managing Director at Matfen Hall Hotel Golf Spa said: “Winning both the regional and national award for Large Hotel of the Year has been a huge boost for all the staff, and a recognition of their hard work throughout the year. We have found that the PR benefit has been immense, not only for us, but for the region as a whole, helping to raise awareness of the quality of the product here in NorthEast England.“Applications are available now from Janet Smith on 0191 229 6842 or email: janet.smith@onenortheast.co.uk with a closing date of the 30th June 2006.
