Northern Light To Shine At Winter Olympics
A North East athlete is to play a part in this year’s Great Britain Winter Olympics team.
The Games which get underway today in Turin, Italy will see a 40 strong GB team challenge for a place on the medals table. Although hopes of bringing home a string of gold medals are not high, the region will be represented by a very strong and capable competitor.
Corporal Tom Clemens, of the 1st Battalion Devon & Dorset Light Infantry, based at Catterick Garrison will be flying the flag for the region in the Biathlon (which sees competitors ski on a cross-country course, stopping to shoot at targets).
As one of the eight members of the armed forces, Tom was wished good luck by Defence Secretary, John Reid: “The Armed Forces have a habit of producing great sportspeople. We will be watching the Winter Olympics eagerly and wish our athletes and the British team all the best of luck.” We’d like to extend our best wishes to Corporal Clemens and the rest of the GB team!
