Northumberland chef in celebrity fundraiser

A Northumberland chef is working alongside a line-up of celebrity chefs to raise money for the BBC Children in Need Appeal. Paul Montgomery, Executive Head Chef at De Vere Slaley Hall, is one of just two North East chefs chosen to join forces with the likes of Gordon Ramsay and Antony Worrall Thompson to create a fundraising recipe book for this year’s campaign. The publication - entitled This is my Favourite… - features chefs from some of the UK’s favourite eateries who have come together to share their most-loved recipes. Chris Ransom from the BBC Children in Need Appeal recipe book said: “We’re really excited about working with Paul on this publication. “The book is unique because as well as including well known celebrity chefs it includes other talents across the UK, like Paul, who are just as passionate about the food they create but are too busy in their kitchens to become household names!“Paul, who also provides the recipe’s for bdaily’s Food for Thought column, was charged with the task of designing a dish that, as well as being creative, was achievable using ingredients obtainable from the local supermarket. His answer to the brief was a rich and velvety dark chocolate bavarois with fresh honeycomb. He said: “This indulgent dish is a real favourite of mine and is always a huge hit in the restaurant with pudding-lovers. It’s fantastic to think that people will soon be serving a little slice of Slaley Hall in their own kitchens up and down the country. “I was absolutely thrilled to be one of a select few to be asked to contribute to the book and I hope it will help raise lots of money for this very worthy cause.” The book will go on sale in October and will be available from a number of major retailers as well as directly from Slaley Hall, priced £10. The hotel also plans to throw a fundraising dinner party to celebrate the launch of the book.
