Police? My budgie needs you?
Only one in six 999 calls made in Scotland is for a real emergency, according to official figures. Scotsman.com reports that some of the more ridiculous calls received by thr emergency services involved calling out the fire brigade to rescue a squirrel stuck in guttering, a student who needed to retrieve his dictionary from a roof, and a woman who demanded police persuade her budgie to return to its cage.
