Pop group support for Name & Fame Challenge

Pop group Liberty X are backing a challenge aimed at highlighting Tyne & Wear’s business success stories.The Name & Fame Challenge, set up to help celebrate this year’s Business Week Tyne & Wear, encourages people to come forward and nominate hard-working business individuals who have made a difference to their lives. Backing the campaign on a recent visit to the North East, Michelle Heaton of Liberty X said: “I think everyone knows someone who works so hard but never ever gets the credit they deserve. I think it’s an excellent idea to recognise people who go much further than necessary to get the job right. “We have a lady at our management company who is always there behind the scenes, but we know that you can totally rely on her. Where would we be without these special people?” Nominations, which include a short, 50-word description of the person and the reasons why they are being put forward, can be made on the Business Week website at www.business-week.org, or via the flyers and drop boxes being distributed around Tyne & Wear and on Metro FM’s Night Owls show. There is the added bonus of random prizes on offer including a trip to Amsterdam for two from DFDS Seaways, 4 tickets to see Cats at the Sunderland Empire, free gym passes for Fitness First and a flat screen telly from John Lewis.Nominees will be invited to celebrate those nominated at The Big Day Event on 6 July in Sunderland, which draws Business Week to a close. This will feature a packed programme of seminars and workshops, plus an interactive exhibition to help established businesses develop new opportunities, encourage people with ambitions to start up their own business and showcase what our region has to offer.Sir Digby Jones, Director General of the CBI, who came to Newcastle recently for his retirement dinner, named and famed two people in the region: Paul Walker, chairman of Science City and Sir Michael Darrington of Greggs plc. He said: “Every city needs its national champions and in Sir Michael Darington and Paul Walker we have two of Britain’s best. It has been my privilege to work with them at the CBI and Newcastle is lucky to have them.”
