Showcase of North East business takes to the streets

A campaign which aims to stem the brain drain of young people leaving the North East will be going into overdrive this summer as it takes off on a summer tour. The campaign, with the message ‘the North East Really Delivers’, will be commandeering a converted double-decker throughout July and August, which will be jam-packed with career information, competitions and fun activities to let young people know about the exciting and varied employment opportunities for them in the region.The campaign is being run by culture change programme Aspire. It comes in response to research which found 46% of young people in the region do not think there are good employment opportunities in the North East. 59% also said they plan to quit the North East after they leave education. The research involved interviews with 1,400 young people aged 11 to 18 in schools across the region. The nerd campaign aims to change young people’s perceptions of the region by working with partners to showcase the opportunities that exist to progress and develop their careers in the North East.
