Tyneside Software Company Makes Global Breakthrough

A Tyneside software company has closed a landmark deal which will see its technology used by businesses the world over. Newcastle-based Arjuna Technologies has closed a deal with US-based JBoss Inc that will see its pioneering software become part of the most widely-deployed, open source middleware suite in the world.

JBoss’ clients include many Fortune500 companies, which means the deal represents a major breakthrough onto the global stage for the Newcastle-based firm, which was formed from the former Hewlett-Packard Arjuna Lab, HP’s centre of excellence for transactioning and related technologies. The Arjuna management and core engineering team has been working together for more than 20 years and the company is an industry leader in its areas of expertise – transaction processing and reliable messaging for Web Services – technology that is beginning to revolutionise online business-to-business procedures.

Arjuna views the JBoss deal as a major opportunity for strengthening the services side of its business by offering consultancy and training around open source technologies and bespoke Java development expertise to clients. Whilst sales of Arjuna’s technology have exceeded £10million over the years, it believes the real growth area in the market is in services. Steve Caughey, Arjuna’s CEO, said: “Arjuna’s software has been evaluated by most middleware vendors in the business and whilst the software has always been judged to be technically excellent, the business case has always been an issue as our reach to market was limited. “Obviously, the more widely-used a software product is, the more confidence potential users will have in it. Therefore, the JBoss opportunity offered us a distribution channel into thousands of new businesses and we are delighted with the opportunity it creates.”
