Young business hopefuls pitch to win

Young business hopefuls will show the North East business community how it’s done tomorrow at the final of a business competition which follows hot on the heels of reality TV shows Pop idol and Dragon’s Den. Biz Idol and Biz Idol U18 sought entries from business hotshots across the Tyne and Wear region. The three finalists from each competition will go head-to-head at tomorrow’s Big Day Event with a live pitch before a panel of judges. The Biz Idol finalists include a speciality soup bar concept that provides healthy and nutritious soups and snacks, an art based business retailing both contemporary canvas artwork and also producing bespoke pieces and a vendor who plans to sell boxed loose-leaf organic white tea to high street stores, delicatessens and healthy venues such as gyms. The U18 finalists include a charity party organiser, a health café and juice bar and a 13-year old who has cerebral palsy who wants to see the price of disability aids such as leg braces, PVC hand gloves and automated hands drop dramatically by getting them made directly by his own workforce. They will find out who has won at the Celebration Hour at the Big Day Event, which will draw Business Week Tyne & Wear 2006 to a close on the terraces of the Sunderland Stadium of Light with music, entertainment and a climactic finale. The local business people who have been nominated for their impact on their community in the Business Week Name & Fame Challenge will also be celebrated during the festivities. The Big Day Event is free to attend and has announced a line-up of sessions to cater for everyone from the CEO keen to build a multi-million pound business to a sales team looking for knock-out presentation tips or a start-up entrepreneur wishing to gain advice and inspiration.Business Week Tyne and Wear is funded through the TyneWear Partnership from One North East and as a business initiative is led by the North East Chamber of Commerce.
