North East showcases nanotechnology expertise
The North East’s expertise in the hi-tech field of nanotechnology will be showcased to the world as an international delegation visits the region tomorrow. The visit comes as the UK Nano Forum 2006 takes to the road, bringing a 33-strong delegation to the North East to find out what the region has to offer.
The Forum, which was organised by the Micro Nano Technology Network and the Department for Trade and Industry, saw 150 of the very best of the UK technology community come together at a special exhibition in London on Tuesday before beginning their tour of the country.
The North East visit tomorrow has been organised in conjunction with Cenamps (Centre of Excellence for Nanotechnology, Micro and Photonic Systems for North East England) and will include a series of presentations by companies and research and development organisations at INEX, Newcastle University. The delegation - made up of international visitors focused on purchasing or collaborating on nanotechnology-related projects - will then travel to the science and technology research park NETPark, Sedgefield to meet companies and academic research institutions from County Durham and the Tees Valley areas.
David Coppock, UK Trade & Investment’s International Trade Director, said: “This is an ideal opportunity for the region’s companies and our research institutions to showcase the region’s expertise in the field of nanotechnology.”
Joanne Dolezal, Network Marketing Manager for Cenamps, said: “The main purpose of the event is to raise the profile of the North East region’s high tech R&D capabilities, which are evolving rapidly to offer industry a unique proposition with which to develop long term collaborations around flexible functional materials and next generation rapid manufacturing capabilities.”
