Swan in love with paddleboat, Pt. 2
In September we reported on the tale of the German swan who fell in love with a swan shaped paddleboat. Unfortunately Peter the swan is now refusing to fly south for the winter without his mate. Park keepers say that the boat should also be removed from the lake before the cold weather hits, according to ananova.com.
Boat-owner Peter Overschmidt has agreed not to lock the vessel away. He said: “When you see how Peter circles the swan boat you know there could be no other option, it’s the centre of his life.”
Allwetter Zoo have agreed that both Peter and the boat can spend the winter on the pond near their elephant enclosure, which is more protected from the elements than the lake. Zoo director Joerg Adler said: “This arrangement could go on forever because the animal now firmly believes he has found a partner for life.”
