4 second rule for websites
Four seconds is the maximum most online shoppers will wait for a webpage to load before abandoning the site, according to research from Akamai Technologies.
The survey of over 1000 online shoppers revealed that online loyalty is almost entirely dependent on quick page loading. Slow loading sites were found to diminish shopper goodwill and create negative brand perception. Only high product prices and shipping costs were found to irritate shoppers more than slow sites.
More than one-third of shoppers with a poor experience abandoned the website entirely, while 75% said they were not likely to shop on that site again. Nearly 30% of dissatisfied customers will develop a negative perception of the company and tell their friends and family about the experience.
