Young Tyneside film maker attracts national attention
The work of a would-be Tyneside movie maker is to feature at a prestigious national conference being held later this month.
Eighteen-year-old Chris Nicholson from Cramlington was asked to film a behind-the-scenes documentary on the making of Anthem For Northumberland, a film with original music which premiered at The Sage Gateshead last month. Anthem, which saw school children across the country make a 60-minute film about their lives and composing the soundtrack, so impressed Creative Partnership’s national office that it has been chosen to feature at their national conference – Exciting Minds –in Manchester on 27 and 28 November.
The conference will bring together teachers, local authority staff and other interested parties for presentations and discussions on all aspects of creativity in schools, with guest speakers including Culture Secretary, Tessa Jowell and OFSTED chief inspector, Christine Gilbert.
Chris was a pupil at Astley High School, Seaton Deleval at the time of the project and jumped at the opportunity to film the “making of” short film. He said: “I’ve always been interested in film making and made some short films while I was at school. “And I did some filming during the summer when the workshops were taking place for Anthem so I had a great record of what was going on.”
