NORA brings uni recognition

Northumbria University’s Library team has been shortlisted for the International Information Industry Awards. The team faces stiff competition from the Open University, the British Library, Kirklees Council and the Government Office Network team in the category of best team in the academic and public sectors.

The winner will be announced at an awards ceremony in London on 29 November. The team was nominated for the University’s hugely successful search engine NORA - which enables users to search for information from multiple sourcest the same time. Since the system’s launch in February, it has handled 237,000 search sessions and made more than five million searches of the eLibrary’s resources.

Professor Jane Core, Director of Library and Learning Services, said: “Searching with NORA is as powerful and simple as Google. It gives our staff and students the leading edge by helping them get the most out of our outstanding collection of eLibrary materials. “To be shortlisted for this award is a tremendous achievement. Good management, vision and commitment on the part of the library team has helped ensure NORA has been a hugely successful project and it’s great to see the hard work rewarded in this way.”
