Northumberland youngsters trained by TV voice coaches
Two television voice coaches who have helped singers such as Will Young and Mel C to improve their singing are tuning up for a special session with youngsters in Northumberland. Carrie and David Grant are travelling to the North East next week to carry out a one day workshop with a group of youngsters from three Northumberland schools.
The coaching workshop is part of the Young Creatives Project, a year-long ‘Apprentice’ style initiative developed by Creative Partnerships Northumberland, which will see a group of 30 pupils involved in tackling a number of creative tasks and activities over the next year.
The youngsters from Astley High School in Seaton Delaval, Prudhoe High School and Bedlington’s St Benet Biscop Catholic High School have been chosen to be a representative cross section of their year group. At the end of the project their exam results, attendance and attitude will be measured against their peers to highlight the impact of creativity and enterprise in developing well rounded, confident and successful young people. The Grants will be involved in a one day session at The Sage Gateshead, giving the 14 and 15-year-olds a real opportunity to experience working with top voice coaches.
Carol Alevroyianni, Director, Creative Partnerships Northumberland, said: “We are aiming to build the body and voice confidence of the students so that they can not only come up with great innovative ideas and solutions to the tasks we are setting them but are able to confidently present and sell them to an audience. Singing is a great way to develop that confidence.”
