The bgroup wins top enterprise prize
A Newcastle-based creative agency is celebrating today after winning first prize in the national Make Your Mark Enterprise Challenge competition.
The bgroup beat off competition from the UK’s most enterprising businesses with their ‘Is that a banana in your pocket…?’ business idea, which would sell rude-looking fruit and vegetables to benefit disadvantaged communities. The team from The bgroup travelled to London for the national final, which involved a full day of workshops and then a two-minute ‘Dragon’s Den’ style pitch to a judging panel, which included the CEOs of Enterprise Insight and Freeserve.
Managing Director Siobhan Bales commented: “We are utterly thrilled to be declared the most enterprising business in the country! We do a lot of work within the enterprise market, and so we really understand why enterprise is so vital - for the economy as a whole and for individual organisations and the people who work in them. Everyone who works at The bgroup fully embrace the positive ‘can do’ attitude that being enterprising is all about, and winning this award simply proves that we are totally committed to enterprise at every level.”
The Make Your Mark Challenge formed part of National Enterprise Week, which aims to encourage enterprising attitudes across the UK. Research conducted as part of Enterprise Week reveals barriers still exist within organisations which prevent innovation and new ideas getting through. 32% of bosses believe that ideas are only generated ‘from the top’ and staff do not come up with good ideas. 28% of employees think that there is a lack of structure to allow new ideas to flourish, and 25% believe that managers and other senior officers in their organisation are actually afraid of new thinking.
