New Year's resolution for County Durham
Business Link County Durham has made a New Year resolution to generate 500 new business start-ups in the first quarter of this year. The business support agency is launching a marketing campaign across the county asking the public for their business ideas with the catchphrase “What’s Yours?”
North East based creative agency The bgroup has been hired to handle the campaign which will see the “What’s Yours?” catchphrase used in many ways from press, radio and outdoor advertising, window stickers and business ideas competitions as well as bringing real-life County Durham success stories to the public’s attention in a series of local events.
Edd Smith, enterprise project manager at Business Link County Durham said: “The ‘Whats Yours?’ campaign is aimed at sparking an awareness and confidence that business ideas are achievable in County Durham, and whether these ideas are large or small, there is help and advice out there. Many people have an idea for a business. This campaign is aimed at helping people take their first steps towards making these ideas reality by either starting up their own business or beginning now to plan for the future.”
Business Link County Durham is hoping the campaign will help it climb the ladder in terms of new businesses started in the North East. In 2005 there were 4505 VAT registered North East businesses but only 910 of these were in County Durham, and it has one of the lowest levels of entrepreneurialism in the region with 22 business start ups per 10,000 people.
