Local youths dish 'the Dosh'
Young people in Darlington are to receive training to help them distribute £310,000 to initiatives devised by their peers. The council’s youth service has been awarded the government cash which will be allocated through a scheme called “the Dosh”. Various groups have already begun applying for a share of the funding, and 11 teenagers have now been selected for residential training so they can assess and process the applications.
Chris McEwan, Darlington Council’s cabinet member for children’s services, said: “I am delighted that ideas are already coming in for funding and that a group of young people have been trained to help them choose the schemes that will benefit the most young people in the borough. “The Dosh is a great way for young people to influence what activities are provided for them, and to work with the youth service and other volunteers to provide popular and interesting events.”
