Entrepreneur's vision for the North East

North East entrepreneur Paul Callaghan will give a special guest lecture on the future of the regional economy, at Northumbria University on Wednesday 7th February. Paul will examine the changing economic structure of the North East and how it is moving to a knowledge economy based on the growing strength of its Universities and technology companies. He will also explore the concept of the ‘Weightless Economy’ and how the growth of the internet can create new markets for the virtual products of the region’s knowledge businesses.

Paul founded Domain Names.com in 1997 and helped it grow to become one of Europe’s largest domain name registrars. He was voted the ‘Northern E-business Entrepreneur of the Year’ in 2000 and the ‘Entrepreneur of the Year’ in the Portfolio Awards in 2005. He is also a founder director of the Entrepreneurs Forum and Chairman of RTC North. He was Chairman of Business Link Tyne and Wear before he took up the position of Chair of Business Link North East in 2006, and has recently joined the board of One NorthEast.

The lecture will be held in Nixon Hall, Wynne Jones Centre, Northumbria University City Campus, at 6pm, and will be followed by light refreshments in Rutherford Hall. If you would like to attend, please contact Nikki Simmons on 0191 227 3025, fax number 0191 227 4791 or email nikki.simmons@northumbria.ac.uk.
