North East women offered the key to a better future

North East women are being offered a chance to get what they want from working life. Local women have signed up to a new programme which is helping them to explore their potential and plan for a new future. Encouraging Women into Enterprise (EWE) is aimed at women from diverse backgrounds looking at self-employment as a viable option. As part of this project, a programme of events has been designed specifically to encourage and support women who would not traditionally consider starting up their own businesss.

Genevene Goodwin of EWE said: “We believe that North East women are just as creative and capable as our counterparts anywhere else in Britain, but at the moment, we are bottom of the league for self employed women. We believe that all women across the North East should be given the opportunity to explore their enterprising potential, no matter their background of circumstances.”

Nynzi Maung of EWE said: “It seems that many of us just need a bit more self belief, encouragement or practical advice to help us put our plans into action. This programme is tailored specifically for women and offers something very different from the usual business start-up sessions. “It’s all about inspiring and raising aspirations, giving each woman the confidence, knowledge and skills they need to start their own business.”

Encouraging Women into Enterprise is fully funded by One NorthEast (via the Small Business Service), so all the sessions are free of charge. The programme will be running from January to March 2007 and events have been organised throughout the North East region.
