Making IT your business

Northumbria University’s BSc in Information Technology for Business Management opens its doors to prospective students this Friday. Billed as ‘the degree that gives you a two year start in your career’, it was created three years ago to address a growing industry need for graduates with a blend of IT and business skills.

The course is three years full time and brings together Business, Technology, Projects and Interpersonal skills. It incorporates a range of relevant projects, including a final year project with industry and features regular guest lectures by prominent figures from the fields of IT and industry.

Paul Binks of British Airways, who are one of the companies supporting the scheme, said: “IT evolves so fast. Knowledge acquired studying for a degree that focuses on specific languages and systems will quickly become outdated if it is not applied to a broader work environment. A degree which gives students the skills and behaviours required in the modern work-place alongside a firm grounding in technology is much better. This is exactly what the ITMB degrees do.”

Programme Director Dr Tony Venus added: “What makes this degree so exciting from an employers viewpoint is that it delivers practical business skills from day one, enabling graduates to progress further and faster than their peers. “This is a deep and challenging degree designed to get students into successful careers as soon as possible. We are educating the potential managers of the future who will need to thoroughly understand the business application of technology.”

The ITBM Diploma open day will be held at the School of Computing, Engineering and Information Sciences, Pandon Building, Northumbria University, on Friday 9th February, from 11.00 am until 2.00 pm. For more information on the ITMB, or to attend the open day, please contact Tony Venus on 0191 2273030 or by email to tony.venus@northumbria.ac.uk.
