Calling all teachers - go back to school!

Teachers across Tyne and Wear are being invited to swap the white board for exercise books and make a return to the classroom – as students. As part of a series of workshops aimed at adding a touch of creativity to the region’s classrooms, secondary school teachers and training providers will be given tips, advice and ideas on how to make lessons more stimulating and engaging.

Delivered by People into Enterprise (PIE) in conjunction with Big Ideas, which is based at the North East Business and Innovation Centre (BIC), the innovative ‘Stepping up to Creativity’ workshops are designed to make the learning experience more enjoyable for both teachers and pupils. The first in a series of four workshops was delivered in January. Titled ‘generating ideas’ it outlined the programmes aims, paving the way for the remaining three workshops – ‘from ideas to opportunity’, ‘making it happen’ and ‘engaging and motivating others’ which will be delivered in the next three months.

Lisa Smith, Big Ideas manager, said: “The workshops are a fantastic opportunity for teaching staff to learn and develop creative solutions to what can often be tricky classroom situations. “We aim to equip participants with the skills to develop their own imaginative projects and inspire them to see creativity as a valuable tool in meeting their school’s needs.”

Available on three separate days, the programme’s next workshop, ‘from ideas to opportunity’, will take place on February 26, 27 and 28 at Big Ideas and will concentrate on generating ideas, creative problem solving and putting ideas into action.
