Youth Challenge Project heats up

A young enterprise competition in Sunderland is gearing up for the next stage as another sponsor pledges its support. Technology Services Group (TSG) have committed themselves to the Big Ideas ICT Youth Challenge, and are donating several laptop computers as prizes.

Nigel Hudson, Business Development Director at TSG, said: “Many of us believe that we could design better products than some of the offerings currently on the market, so here’s a chance for young people to prove it! This is a great opportunity for young people in the North East to think outside the box and come up with a new idea which could actually eventually make it into the market. “Participants are going to learn about the endless possibilities of ICT, working effectively in a team to deadlines, and about the challenges of successfully getting an idea off the drawing board and into the market. It is a fantastic project which could genuinely change the lives of people who participate.”

From 70 original entries the judges selected 17 teams who will attend a full day’s workshop on Tuesday 27th March with some of the country’s leading ICT and business development experts, including Jonathan Gold from NStar, Colin Hewitt from Ward Hadaway Associates and Simon Roberson from BT amongst others.

Lisa Smith, Big Ideas Manager, said: “Some amazing prizes have been provided by our sponsors. However, I think our entrants are aware that this challenge is not just about winning – it is providing them with an array of skills that they will be able to use within any chosen vocation.”
