One NorthEast named joint top performing RDA

One NorthEast has been graded as the joint top performing regional development agency in the country in an independent assessment of its work. The Independent Performance Assessment (IPA) results announced today complete an audit of eight of England’s nine Regional Development Agencies (RDAs) by the National Audit Office.

The National Audit Office awarded One NorthEast a score of 22 points out of a possible 24 after a two-week inspection of its activities in September last year. The IPA also included evidence from interviews with North East businesses and organisations as well as One NorthEast staff. One NorthEast was found to be “performing strongly” on ambition, performance management and achievement and “performing well” on prioritisation and capacity.

The report said: “One NorthEast has a strong vision and works well with partners from across the region. “One NorthEast has an excellent track record of achieving both financial spend and output targets.”

Margaret Fay, One NorthEast Chairman, said: “I’m delighted at the Agency’s IPA grading. The positive result is a tribute to the strength and effectiveness of our Board, the hard work of our skilled and dedicated workforce and how we have worked with partners to regenerate the region. “However, there is still much to do if we are to continue closing the economic productivity gap between the North East and the rest of the country so we will not be resting on our laurels. We must continue to improve our performance to provide the direction and leadership our region needs.”

Sharing top spot with One NorthEast was the East Midlands Development Agency.
