The enemy within?
Most Hungarians polled over their views on asylum seekers wanted ‘scroungers’ from the made-up country of Piresa thrown out of the country. Hungarian opinion research institute Tarki said: “We were surprised that two thirds of the interviewees demanded absolutely no asylum for Piresans, accused them of being spongers and agreed they should be sent home immediately.”
The country was made up to test people’s tolerance to foreigners, as Hungary is often rated one of the most xenophobic countries in Europe.
