Tynewear Partnership nurtures business stars of the future

Teenagers at a North East school have been working alongside business leaders in an attempt to learn more about a career in industry. 184 Year 10 pupils from Ryton Comprehensive School joined forces with a number of North East business executives at the ‘What Do You Make Of That?’ business and enterprise event. The event, which took place at Beamish Hall Hotel in County Durham, aimed to teach youngsters about the challenges faced in the business world, as well as the skills, attitudes and qualities required for success in the world of work.

Pupils were divided into teams of ten and asked to plan, design, market and evaluate their own products. Each group was allocated their own entrepreneur or business leader who provided advice and support in designing roles within the company and aspects of product manufacture and marketing.

Chris Thompson, chairman of TyneWear Partnership, said: “Young people are the employees of tomorrow and it is important that as well as learning the academic theory behind business they are able to speak to ‘real’ professionals who are working for some of the most successful companies in the North East. “TyneWear Partnership is always keen to be involved in events like these that are influencing the young people of the North East. The important thing is that these youngsters will be representing future businesses in our region.”
