Dynamic duo tackle Bridge2Bridge challenge

Cycle-crazy chums Richard Ponton and Chris Dresser have set themselves a particularly intense challenge, cycling from Newcastle’s Tyne Bridge to London’s Tower Bridge in two days, in aid of the region’s leading child health charity, The Children’s Foundation. The duo will set off on their 300 mile trip on Sunday 20 May from the Tyne Bridge and are aiming to make it to Tower Bridge by the following Tuesday. With only two short overnight stops on the way, to refuel and recharge their batteries, the boys are looking forward to the challenge and hope to raise valuable funds for The Children’s Foundation.

Chris said: “We thought if we’re going to do a fundraiser for the charity, why not go the whole hog and do something really ambitious like this! It’s downhill all the way, how hard can it be?”

M Steel Cycles of Station Road, Gosforth, have kindly offered to lend Richard and Chris the bikes for the trek down to the capital and donations for their challenge have already started flooding in to their dedicated website: www.justgiving.com/bridge2bridge2007.

Barbara Gubbins, chief executive, The Children’s Foundation said: “I applaud the efforts of Richard and Chris in cycling down to London. Encouraging people in the region to exercise more is one of our key aims, so this event ties in very nicely. The money they raise will go towards our Tenner Campaign, helping children’s health in the North East become the best, rather than the worst in the UK.”
