Wansbeck businesses urged to multiply

An event in Woodhorn to launch the Wansbeck Business Directory saw local business hero Sir John Hall urge companies to get together and multiply opportunities for each other. The Business Directory – now in its second edition – lists over 1,500 companies in Wansbeck.

Sir John, patron of the Wansbeck Business Forum, said: “Buying products and services from local suppliers, wherever possible, can provide huge benefits for all. Not only does it give a sense of satisfaction that you are supporting the local area, but it can often prove to provide a more efficient, personal service, at an equal or more competitive price.”

Wansbeck district now has government funding from the Local Enterprise Growth Initiative (LEGI) to stimulate a culture of enterprise, encouraging existing businesses to grow and more people to start their own businesses.

Brian Smith OBE, chairman of the Wansbeck LEGI board said: “There are many successful companies in Wansbeck, some producing world-class products with significant export sales. LEGI funding should help support and create more. But it’s also time to realise that as businesses we can do a lot to improve the local economy ourselves, not only by the employment we generate, but by making sure we give local suppliers a chance to compete and make the business case for local supply.”

The event was one of a series organised by the Wansbeck Business Forum, who also produce the directory. For more information on the Forum or to get a copy of the Business Directory contact Michael Arnot on 01670 825666.
