Search for education and skills stars begins

The search has begun for the stars of North East education and skills with the opening of nominations for the Celebration of Learning and Skills (CoLaS) Awards 2007. The CoLaS awards, which will be held by the Learning and Skills Council (LSC) North East at the Sage Gateshead on 12 October, are designed to recognise innovative and progressive approaches to skills development by companies in the North East.

Ten awards are available on the night, covering all areas of education, employment and skills development, from hospitality and media to recruitment and construction. For more information on the individual categories, visit www.lsc.gov.uk/colas07.

The awards are open to individuals over the age of 14, as well as any size or type of employer in the North East. Entries are restricted to two per individual or business, with the winners to be decided by a panel of CoLaS sponsors, and LSC North East representatives. All short-listed entrants will be invited to attend the Oscar-style awards night where they will join a 1,000 other guests including business leaders, journalists and education representatives.

Chris Roberts, regional director, LSC North East: “The Celebration of Learning and Skills Awards 2007 is set to be the biggest and most prestigious event that the North East has ever seen and we are appealing to people from across the region to nominate themselves or someone they know, who deserves the star treatment. The Learning and Skills Council (LSC) North East is well aware of the high calibre of individuals and organisations that we have operating in the region and this is the perfect opportunity for them to receive much deserved recognition and respect.”
