National award for young people's housing website

A website designed to provide young people with the answers to all their housing questions has won a national award. The Gateshead Housing Company’s website at www.mypadgateshead.co.uk was awarded ‘Best Public Sector Website’ in the UK Communicators in Business Awards at the Hilton Newcastle Gateshead on Friday 25 May.

The Mypad site has proved a major success with over 500,000 hits since it was launched, and contains information to help 16 to 24 year olds make living in their own home possible. The site, which was launched late last year, was created by The Gateshead Housing Company with the help of young people from across the borough. As well as information about leaving home, finances, renting a property, and buying a home, the site also features a glossary to help people understand some of the more complicated areas, terms and jargon about housing.

Bill Fullen, Chief Executive, said, “We are delighted to have received this accolade from such a prestigious awards scheme that attracted entries from across the UK. It is great that we are getting acknowledgement for the excellent work that the company is doing to improve the lives of thousands of people aged under 25 in Gateshead and beyond. The company has come a long way in the last year, and it is rewarding to be given praise from other organisations for all the hard work and effort that our employees have put in to get us where we are.”
