North East's voluntary sector given leadership opportunity

Volutary and community sector organizations in the North East are being given an opportunity to boost their leadership and governance capabilities. Project North East, in conjunction with Governance Works and the Northern Rock Foundation, is providing free half day sessions for North East VCS managers and their board members to consider the role of leadership and governance in their own organisations, and to explore best practice.

Fiona Ellis, Director of Northern Rock Foundation, said: “Strong leadership and good governance are vital in creating successful and sustainable voluntary sector organisations. Many organisations don’t often find the opportunity to consider best practice in this area, which is why Project North East’s offer is an ideal opportunity for leaders and governors to work together better, and make a real difference to their organisations and their service users.”

The sessions are designed to provide managers and their board members with an opportunity to think about how to define and tackle questions of leadership and governance. Participants will have the chance to identify styles of leadership and how these impact on the organisation’s development, issues that affect performance, and ways of developing and supporting leadership and governance.

Tracey Moore of Project North East said: “Take an afternoon out. Bring your sandwiches, we’ll provide the drinks – non alcoholic – and facilitate the process for exploring what leadership and governance can do for you and your organisation.”

The event is being held at two venues – Tuesday 10 July at the Glebe Centre, Murton and Wednesday 11 July at Saville Exchange, North Shields. To book your place on one of these dates contact Debbie Leckey now on 0191 261 6009 or email debbie.leckey@pne.org.
