Jonathan jumps to lauch rehabilitation centre
Olympic gold medalist Jonathan Edwards took a hop, skip and jump to launch a £1m state-of-the-art rehabilitation and health centre in the region. Jonathan was at the award-winning care home, Whickham Villa, in Gateshead, to help celebrate its opening after receiving significant investment.
The centre supports people over the age of 18 who have complex specialist care needs. Through specially adapted equipment, such as a flotation tank, Jacuzzi and swimming pool, clients are able to dramatically ease pain, strengthen muscles and relax, all vital parts to their rehabilitation. Hundreds of others joined Jonathan including representatives from the region’s primary care trusts, Gateshead Council, healthcare professionals and relatives of guests currently receiving treatment at the health club.
Jonathan said: “Throughout my professional career I have always understood the importance of good rehabilitation. However I personally witnessed how vital this support actually was when visiting my friend, a client here. The friendly, bespoke expert care she receives on a day-to-day basis enables her to enjoy her rehabilitation instead of it being a chore.”
Whickham Villa recently collected a national award for ‘Best Development in Specialist Care’ given by Caring Business and Pinders followed by the Northern LABC (local authority building control) regional prize for ‘Best Partnership with Client/Housebuilder’.
John Gallon, Founder and owner of Whickham Villa, said: “We are incredibly proud of our facilities here and the launch of our healthclub is a significant development in the company’s 20 year heritage. To have Jonathan’s support is also fantastic as he has personally witnessed how such reputable facilities are imperative to a person’s mental and physical wellbeing.”
