Dragon full of praise for accountants

One of the famous Dragons from the BBC’s Dragons’ Den has praised a local accountancy team on their recent awards win. Duncan Bannatyne, founder of the Darlington leisure and hotel group, commented on Procter & Gamble’s North Tyneside based accountancy team winning four out of 10 awards at last week’s North East Accountancy Awards.

Mr Bannatyne, who was on the judging panel, said: “We were very impressed by the P&G team and individual accountants – for an in-house accounting team to take on top accountancy firms is a real achievement. Even though competition was very tough, P&G were clear winners in the four categories and fully deserve the recognition. “The teams and individuals really showed their commitment and innovative ideas in introducing new systems helping the company to become more efficient and more successful.”

The awards, the first of their kind outside London, aim to recognise excellence amongst the region’s professional accountants and financial services. The P&G team all come from Global Business Services, based in their EMEA Shared Service Centre in North Tyneside. Altogether they won four awards – Accountant of the Year, Young Accountant of the Year, Business Finance Team of the Year and Outstanding Achievement of the Year.

Eric Head, P&G Cobalt’s site leader said: “We are absolutely delighted with the success of the team – it is an outstanding and well deserved achievement. The two teams and individuals beat some really tough competition – including some top finance and accounting organisations to win in every award we were short-listed for. It is great to have this recognition from such a distinguished panel of judges.”

On the judging panel were Nigel Wright of Nigel Wright Recruitment, One NorthEast chairman Margaret Fay and Journal business editor Iain Laing.
