Prima Training driving upwards to success

A Sunderland based entrepreneur who spotted a gap in the market has set up her business to educate and inform people on changes in government and local council legislation. Jennifer Demirel has started Prima Training to offer training to taxi drivers and passenger escorts who are currently doing contract work for the local education authority and the social services who will from September 2007 require all drivers to be trained to a standard recommended by the Community Transport Association.

Prima Training came about after Jennifer applied to become registered as a trainer for this new legislation for her parents’ taxi firm and she discovered the wide breadth of training needed. Due to the amount of man hours required Jennifer decided to train fully and set up her own fully independent business delivering the training to the whole North East region.

Jennifer said: “My main aim is to ensure that I can offer a friendly, approachable and non – school like environment which is going to encourage people to want to learn and to want to attend. The clases are flexible times so people can do them around their shifts and home life etc.”

Anneline Watts, Jennifer’s business start up worker at Social Enterprise Sunderland, said: “Prima Training has only been trading since February and so far the business is doing really well. Jennifer is great at making people feel at ease and this translates brilliantly into her teaching role, I wish her every success for the future.”
