20,007 homes modernised across Sunderland ahead of schedule
A property investment plan has been finished a year early as a North East business completed their 20,007th property modernisation ahead of the scheduled plan.
The modernisation work fulfils the promises made to customers after People and Property business, Gentoo, transferred 36,000 homes from Sunderland City Council in 2001. Over £256million has been spent on the modernisation process across Sunderland, including improvements such as new kitchens, bathrooms, rewiring and external renovations. To celebrate the ongoing successes of the programme, the 20,007th customer, was presented with a brand new tumble dryer and bouquet of flowers.
Ian Porter, Managing Director of Gentoo Sunderland, said: “It is easy to forget that, six years on, Gentoo continues to deliver and exceed the Council’s promises made to customers regarding modernising homes.
“This speedy turnaround could only have been successfully achieved by working in partnership with our customers, contractors and the local housing staff.”
