Scalpel, gauze... and mobile?
Surgeons in Argentina had to finish an operation by the light from mobile phones when they were hit by a power cut. They were carrying out an emergency appendix operation on a 29-year-old man, Leonardo Molina, reports Sky News. But then the power cut out at the Policlinico Juan D Peron, the main hospital in Villa Mercedes, a small city in San Luis province.
A hospital spokesman told the TN television news station: “The generator, which should have been working correctly, didn’t work. The surgeons and anesthetists were in the dark. A family member got some cell phones together from people in the hallway and took them in to provide light.”
