New jobs and expansion at engineering firm
A company supplying engineering and manufacturing expertise to the oil and gas industry is relocating and expanding thanks to One NorthEast. Ashington-based Moffat 2000 Ltd received the Selective Finance for Investment (SFI) grant to create 20 new full time jobs and enable the company to move to larger premises to keep up with demand and facilitate future growth.
Ken Thompson, Director of Moffat 2000 Ltd, said: “The £100,000 grant will add to a capital expenditure of £698,000 to relocate and expand the business into single premises and to fit it out. Offices, welding, testing, painting, fabrication bays, storage facilities and other associated equipment will create a state of the art engineering facility.”
The expansion will also double employment at the company, creating 20 new jobs. These new jobs will also include Graduate Trainee and Trade Apprenticeship roles so expertise can be passed on to the next generation.
Ken said: “We are a local company who are passionate about the region and like to give something back to the local economy. We invest in our staff because we recognise that a business needs good staff to remain successful.”
Ian Williams, One NorthEast Director of Business and Industry said: “Moffat 2000 is a good local company, passionate about the region and growing their business here. I am glad we have been able to assist with a Selective Finance for Investment (SFI) grant, which will allow the company to expand, doubling their workforce and investing in local staff whom they will train and pass on skills and expertise. “The SFI grants we award have a significant impact on the regional economy, making a valuable contribution to its development, and will play a big part in the continued development of a vibrant regional economy.”
Established in 2001, the company offers the design and manufacture of bespoke engineered subsea pipeline products and assembly for the petrochemical, process, offshore and subsea markets in the UK and global markets.
