Bowl over with stars for the Prince's Trust

The Prince’s Trust Challenge Trophy is set to see some celebrity bowling action as it goes all out with its second celebrity sporting match. A charity cricket match will be held in the North East next month in aid of the region’s young people. North East born professional cricketers Steve Harmison and Paul Collingwood launched the second leg of the Prince’s Trust Challenge Trophy sport events at Riverside Stadium in Durham last week.

The Prince’s Trust Challenge Trophy sees the North and South of the region go head-to-head under the colours of the team presidents, His Grace, The Duke of Northumberland and The Right Honourable Earl of Durham, Lord Durham. Jonathan Edwards CBE is the overall team coach for “The Duke’s Team” and Steve Cram MBE is the overall team coach for “The Earl of Durham’s Team” across all four Challenge Trophy events – golf, cricket, shooting and football.Â

The team captains have been responsible for pulling in 22 celebrity participants to play in the game, to take place on 2 September. Already confirmed participants include ex-Newcastle United player Peter Beardsley, the majority of ITV Tyne Tees’ sports desk including presenters Andy Kerr, Simon O’Rourke, and Ian Payne, Falcons rugby player James Grindal and boxer Glen McCrory.

As well as the cricket match, the sporting events also include a celebrity amateur clay shoot at Mitford Hall, Northumberland on 24 Sept 2007 and an all-star football match at St James’ Park (date to be confirmed).
