Women's Enterprise Day gets celebrity endorsement

More must be done to encourage and inspire female entrepreneurs, according to the organisers of this year’s Enterprise Week. As part of November’s week-long celebration of all things entrepreneurial, this year’s Women’s Enterprise Day will consist of hundreds of events across the country in a celebration of female enterprise.

Alex Ritchie, women’s enterprise campaigner at Make Your Mark, which aims to encourage entrepreneurial culture among 14-30-year-olds, and is also co-ordinating Enterprise Week, said: “Less women own their own business than men but this is not due to a lack of skills, instead it can often be put down to a lack of confidence and self esteem. “Women’s Enterprise Day and the Girls! Make Your Mark campaign aim to empower more women to go out and grab available opportunities. Promotion of the right role models is a key way to ensure women have the right knowledge at their disposal.”

Last year’s Enterprise Week consisted of more than 3,184 events nationwide with nearly half a million participants including celebrities and leading business figures.

TV presenter and entrepreneur Sarah Beeny, who is taking part this year, said: “I am very driven when it comes to transforming my own ideas into business successes, and I believe it’s really important to help other young women and girls to do the same. The Girls! Make your Mark campaign is key to providing tomorrow’s business minds with strong, realistic role models who can show them by example what the route to success can look like.”
