Company racing to pole position with new engine test facility
A Durham based company has moved closer to becoming the first motor sport team to run a 100% biodiesel powered car in Britain’s top race car series. Scott Racing Limited has built an engine test cell that allows race engines to be tested at up to 10,000 rpm and 800 horse power, over seven times the power of an average family car.
The facility has recently been commissioned at Scott Racing’s new premises in Langley Moor and used to complete a series of engine fuel tests for a UK biodiesel firm. The company has also run initial tests with 100% biodiesel, the fuel it hopes to compete with at UK race circuits such as Brands Hatch, Croft, Donington Park and Silverstone.
Tim Scott, Scott Racing’s Managing Director, said: “The engine test cell represents an exciting investment for us and is essential to developing a competitive race engine. It also allows us to offer fuel and engine performance testing services to other companies.”
Scott Racing will use the test cell to develop an engine for a biodiesel powered car it intends to race in next year’s British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) using an environmentally sound source of the fuel.
Tim said: “The excellent media coverage and public following of the BTCC gives us a great opportunity to showcase what can be achieved with biodiesel. We also hope to attract partners who would like to use motor sport as part of their own high profile marketing campaigns and communicate an environmentally responsible message.”
Scott Racing’s new facility will be featured in ITV1’s Northern Eye programme on biofuels at 8pm this Friday.
