New business centre celebrates official opening

The launch of 2,000 balloons will celebrate the opening of a new business centre in East Durham at the end of this month. Business leaders from across the region will be celebrating the official opening of the Novus Business Centre at Judson Road, the North West Industrial Estate, Peterlee, on August 30 by Margaret Fay OBE, Chair of ONE NorthEast.

The District of Easington Council who are behind the project, joined forces with East Durham Business Service (EDBS) to set up the new centre which is playing a key role in the regeneration of the area by growing and assisting new business starts. Funding and support has also been provided by the Single Programme (One NorthEast), the European Regional Development Fund and the Neighbourhood Renewal Fund.

Free business support is also available through EDBS, who are based in Novus, to anyone hoping to start their own business, seek marketing advice or develop their existing business in the Easington district.

Sarah Slaven, Manager for EDBS, said: “We are particularly targeting businesses that may be based at home, but are looking to take that next, important step, and expand into a new office space. The fact that we offer free advice and support is crucial, giving new businesses that helping hand they need to grow in confidence and secure a successful future.”

Alan Napier, Leader of the Council, said: “Novus Business Centre was built to provide affordable, contemporary office accommodation for businesses in the heart of the Peterlee business community. We are looking forward to welcoming more businesses to this new facility.”
