Acclaimed designer supports enterprise campaign
Internationally acclaimed entrepreneur Wayne Hemingway has put his support behind the South Tyneside Means Business enterprise campaign. Last week Wayne visited the borough to film a DVD for the campaign, and spent two days chatting to local business people about their experiences.
Wayne said: “This campaign is really important to all business talent within South Tyneside. There has never been a better time to start and grow a business in the area and people would be mad not to tap into the wealth of support available to them. “Everyone is passionate about something and has a spark or an idea within them, it’s just a case of taking that spark and growing it like my wife and I did. You have to add lots of hard work to it and a tremendous amount of energy and support from family and friends but eventually you can create something that you can be extremely proud of. “We need to find the next Marks & Spencer and the next Richard Branson and I strongly believe they are out there.”
Councillor Eddie McAtominey, lead member for jobs, enterprise and regeneration, said: “We are delighted to have Wayne Hemingway on board supporting the South Tyneside Means Business campaign, giving others advice and an insight into his experiences in business. “We hope the DVD will be very useful for those starting out and those growing their businesses. Wayne is certainly someone who sets a great example to others - he started with very little and proved that with a lot of hard work a bright idea can be transformed into a successful and thriving business and we hope to see many local people following in his footsteps.”
Over the years, Wayne and his wife Geraldine have expanded their business empire and are now involved in a series of other projects including setting up their own business to business website, the opening of their own museum, house building and designing a number of household goods including kitchen tiles and personal radios.
