Council service helps Sunderland businesses

A new tendering service offered by Sunderland City Council will give companies in the city the opportunity to secure worldwide business contracts. Sunderland is reportedly the country’s first local authority to offer such an online tendering service.

The council’s Business Investment Team worked with Newcastle-based software development company, Nimis Limited, to set up the bespoke online service, Tender Opportunities. Developed using the Tender Tap software, Tender Opportunities provides selected users with continuous access to contract, quote and tender opportunities. The online facility is offered free of charge to city businesses, saving them the fee of using similar services.

Cheryl Jones of the City Council’s Business Investment Team said: “This new service is a huge benefit to Sunderland businesses. Not only will they be able to pitch for contracts in the region, they can also access procurement opportunities both across the UK and worldwide. “At Sunderland City Council we are committed to helping local businesses and we are certain that those using Tender Opportunities will secure new customers.”

The contracts and tenders facility provides access to thousands of new large and small mainly public sector opportunities.

Steve Gregory, Nimis director, said: “Sunderland City Council is leading the way when it comes to implementing new measures to help companies to embrace new opportunities. This facility gives local businesses a single source to access hundreds of new opportunities each week, covering Sunderland, the North East, Europe and beyond.”
