Cels launches specialist healthcare advisory board

The first official meeting of the Healthcare Procurement Advisory Board, created by the North East Cels Healthcare Network, will take place at the International Centre for Life in Newcastle today.

The board will act as a special interest group looking at issues around selling to the NHS, social services and other large purchasers. It has been created to help healthcare companies in the region understand current policies for purchasing and providing services and goods, as well as engaging and influencing key stakeholders in the region’s healthcare economy.

Andy Copland, Sector Support Manager for Cels Healthcare Network, said: “There has been a great deal of interest in procurement issues from North East businesses and we are delighted to provide an environment for commerce to influence this important issue for jobs and growth.”

The meeting today will feature an update from NHS Supply Chain, a contract between the NHS and logistics provider DHL which manages the procurement and delivery of more than 500,000 products for NHS trusts, hospitals and other healthcare organisations.

Cels, the organisation driving the growth of the healthcare sector in North East England, developed the Healthcare Network as a unique membership organisation to promote excellence and influence and inform all those involved in the NHS and private healthcare industry across the region. It aims to support, link and strengthen the region’s healthcare sector, promoting collaboration amongst the region’s business, academic and public sector organisations engaged in life sciences, health and healthcare.
