Home working getting more popular
Employees are spending more time working from home because they find it easier to get their job done. Almost one in three people spend an average of 15 hours a month working from home, a study has found.
One in 20 workers said they clocked up more than 80 hours a month outside the office, according to the insurance firm Zurich. Avoiding the chore of commuting to the office was the main advantage of working from home, most people said. Others enjoyed the peace and quiet of being in their own home away from noisy colleagues and other distractions.
Even those who don’t officially work from home find it difficult to leave the office behind, with one in five respondents saying that they occasionally check emails or read documents from home.
Some lazier employees saw working from home as a chance for a lie-in and an opportunity to catch up on daytime television. More people are expected to work from home in the coming year, the report said.
Mark Searles, managing director of Zurich, said: “We are going to see popularity of home working rise as both workers and employers seek a better work-life balance.”
