Forum communicates success

Businesses and specialists more used to helping others to communicate better will turn the spotlight on themselves at a major conference in the North East.

The Entrepreneurs’ Forum is hosting ‘Life’s a Pitch’, its first creative communications and marketing conference. The event is aimed at traditional and digital marketeers, clients, agencies, IP specialists and others with an interest in the communications and marketing sector. There are more than 600 creative companies in the North East and the sector is said to be growing by five per cent a year.

Guests speakers at the conference include designer and businessman Wayne Hemingway MBE and MT Rainey, founder of one of the UK’s top five advertising agencies with clients including Virgin, M&S and Land Rover.

Wayne was co-founder of fashion label Red or Dead and is a professor of the built environment at Northumbria University. MT Rainey is considered to be the revolutionary of her industry after she successfully championed the move away from commission income to agencies charging for ideas and intellectual property. She retired as chairman of Rainey Kelly Campbell Roaife two years ago to launch www.horsesmouth.co.uk, a social networking website for universal online mentoring.

Carole Beverley, chief executive of the Entrepreneurs’ Forum, said: “Having held a number of successful conferences where we have been inspired by the stories of some of the country’s greatest entrepreneurs, we are now turning our attention to specific sectors and bringing together like-minded people to share experiences and to learn from one another.

“Some hugely talented people are working in creative communications in the region but it is an increasingly competitive sector. The conference will encourage discussion around the strengths and weaknesses, how businesses can capitalise on opportunities and how a sector that’s focused on helping others to communicate effectively can help itself.”
