Local girls plan tribute to friend's tragic death

Two local girls are planning a tribute event in the North East to remember their friend, Sally Roberts. Trish Mytton, a trainee solicitor, and Charlotte Bell, a forensic science student at Northumbria University, lost their friend Sally earlier this year. Sally died in a Jet Ski accident whilst on holiday in Kenya with her partner, a school friend of Trish’s husband.

Sally, who was from Cambridgeshire, worked in the police force and was dedicated to working in child protection. Whilst in Kenya she had visited a school in a deprived village, where few children get the opportunity of an education. Sally committed herself to paying a teacher’s wages for a year and vowed to go back to the school to teach and make improvements.

Trish said: “Sally was the kind of person who did all the things you wish you had the time and energy to do. She did everything she could to help people both in her job and in her own time. She had this dream to help this small school in one tiny area of Africa. If anything can come from her death it is that we should all be more like her. The only thing we can do now is carry on her dream for her.”

Sally’s partner has set up a charity called Sally’s Children’s Trust. The charity supports Kenyan children and has long term aims to rehabilitate a local primary school and establish an orphanage.

Trish and Charlotte are arranging a charity ball to raise money for Sally’s Children’s Trust. The ball is on 10 November 2007 at the NewcastleGateshead Hilton. Tickets are currently on sale, and the girls are also looking for any donations for the raffle and auction.
