Caring business has healthy future

A South Tyneside business that started out with only two staff members has been recognised as one of the most promising new businesses in its field. It now employs over 52 staff after trading for just two years.

LS Care Ltd, based in Boldon, delivers round the clock nursing supervision. It won the Most Promising New Business award this summer in the South Tyneside Enterprise Partnership (STEP) Awards, in recognition of the growth the business has achieved.

The company caters for clients aged between 16 and 81, and now cares for people with a number of complex illnesses and conditions, including multiple sclerosis (MS), long term ventilation problems, spinal injury, Parkinson’s disease, motor neurone disease, Huntington’s disease and brain injury.

Philip Parkinson, chief executive, said: “We started out at the bottom and grew very quickly as a company and this was soon recognised. We achieved exactly what we set out to do despite having to compete against some tough competition. We are now in a fantastic position where we will soon be exceeding a £1million turnover.”

Philip has invested the money the business received via the STEP Award back into the company by buying laptops, printers and technical software.

Geoff Ford, chair of South Tyneside Enterprise Partnership, said: “LS Care’s success is a great achievement and it is important that companies carrying out such valuable and dedicated work are encouraged and supported in the borough as much as possible. Philip is a great example of someone who started at the bottom and used his initiative and hard work to build a highly successful business.”
